Want to grow your own food? UH Staff and Students are invited to weekly gardening sessions at the campus allotments!

Project Flourish is bringing the plots back to life for the 2026/27 term. Supported by an ESRC IAA grant, the project is a great chance to connect with community gardening, learn about soil health, and explore sustainable food.

Want to get involved? Join the University Allotment Group, led by Dr. Sue Davies, every Wednesday between 12.30–14.00.

Two photographs side by side of people gardening at the University allotments – the person on the left is crouched down in a bed wearing gloves and holding a gardening trowel, while the person on the right is digging soil with a shovel next to a green bucket of soil.

Whether you’re a total beginner or an expert grower, you’re welcome to join as the group digs, weeds, chats, and harvests on the plots in a relaxed and friendly setting.

During these sessions, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn new gardening skills
  • Connect with others
  • Spend time in nature
  • Take a break from work or studies
  • Improve your wellbeing
  • Touch grass (literally!)

These sessions are open to all UH Staff + Students. To join, please email s.davies23@herts.ac.uk
