UH Arts + Culture is delighted to present an exhibition of Graham Boyd’s drawings and paintings. The exhibition charts three key periods in the artist’s practice, includes works that demonstrate the coming together of ideas and captures how the artist’s practice continues to grow into his 9th decade.

'We are all volatile and complex creatures – made up of atoms and particles, all-prevailing and universal. This is what I am trying to reflect.'

Graham Boyd, Compulsive Dreamer catalogue 2018

When reviewing the artist’s practice over 50 years, it reveals a steady progression of work underlined with a fascination for the hidden forces of nature. The earliest works to be exhibited are the New Hampshire Grids of the 1970s. These meticulous and repetitive drawings contrast with the expressive, large, colourful paintings of the 1980s, but have combined to inspire the artist’s most recent work.

Graham Boyd continues to work from his Hertfordshire studio. Boyd is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Hertfordshire and was Head of Painting and Course Leader in Fine Art at Herts College of Art and Design from 1976 to 1993 (which is now the University of Hertfordshire).

There will be events during the exhibition – please sign up to our mailing list below to be the first to know.

Graham Boyd’s paintings are also in the UH Art Collection and can be seen on campus.

Please note the exhibition will be closed over the bank holiday weekend Saturday 27th - Monday 29th August
